Leipzig: a congress location with flair and imagination

A city with a tradition for its hospitality and its cosmopolitan reach

One of the oldest trade-fair locations in the world, the City of Leipzig has always been a place to meet and exchange ideas and experiences as well as goods. The little town at the intersection of the two great trading routes, the Via Regia and the Via Imperii, received its City Charter and Market Privilege as far back as 1165. Leipzig subsequently developed into the most important trading centre in Central Europe and became a magnet for business folk and merchants from all over the world. Leipzig is the city of its citizens: since the Middle Ages, it is the people of Leipzig themselves who have, with their incomparable drive, determination and commitment, made it what it is today: a city of verve and vision, which has seen the birth of numerous new departures, not least the 'peaceful revolution' of 1989.

Centre of learning, science and business

The Alma Mater Lipsiensis, Leipzig's university, was founded in 1409 and the numerous educational, research and scientific institutions, clinics and medical centres continue to attract pioneering thinkers, scholars and creative artists to this vibrant metropolis in Saxony. And, as a business location, too, Leipzig is now even more attractive than it has ever been: medium sized businesses with long traditions behind them and leading international companies have stamped their mark on this dynamic city and ideal conference venue.

    Rich experiences and cultural variety

Leipzig is all about making things as uncomplicated as possible, about cosmopolitan openness and hospitality. The lively city centre is best discovered on foot. There is an abundance of cultural and leisure activities awaiting visitors: classical and modern music, theatres and stage shows, art from all ages, numerous tourist attractions and green spaces offer an abundance of things to do. Eating and drinking out can be pretty wonderful here too; there are more than 1,400 restaurants, cafés and bars offering something for all tastes, with a wide range of culinary diversity.

New stimuli for congresses and conferences

Creativity and a thirst for knowledge have been at work in Leipzig for centuries and continue to exert their influence on the present, too. This City of Trade Fairs has always been a driver of innovation and new developments. Its geographical location at the centre of Europe, its powerful cluster of scientific and economic endeavour and, not least, its outstanding infrastructure, make it the perfect choice for conferences and congresses of all kinds.
