    City of Science

    Studenten an der Universität Leipzig

In 1409 the Alma Mater Lipsiensis was founded: Germany's second oldest university. Throughout the centuries, it has attracted and formed great minds like Melanchthon, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Hermann Brockhaus, Samuel Hahnemann, Friedrich Nietzsche, Wilhelm Ostwald, Heinrich Hertz, Werner Heisenberg, and Max Bürger.

Other institutions of higher education enjoy international reputation as well, like the University of Technology, Business and Culture, the Musical Conservatory, or the Theatre Academy. Leipzig features about 150 Institutes, clinics and hospitals.

    Evolutionäre Anthropologie in Leipzig

Besides the Botanical Gardens, the Leipzig Zoo is worth being mentioned in particular. A world-wide unique project is Pongoland, where scientists of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology study the behaviour of apes, thus tracing our own origins.

Be it the Max Planck Institutes, Institutes of the Fraunhofer Society, the Media Academy, the UFZ Centre for Environmental Research, or the BIO CITY LEIPZIG: they all make precious contributions to shaping our future, and they will certainly provide valuable synergies for the program of your conference.

Follow these links to discover the variety of Leipzig as a city of science.
