Leipzig is a place of learning and science

Famous institutions of education and scholarship
Leipzig is home to more than 150 institutes and clinics, as well as to a host of outstanding educational institutions: the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL), founded in 1898, the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HWTK) and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theatre (HMT Leipzig), the oldest musical academy in Germany and the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) all enjoy an international reputation.

Powerful synergies for congresses and conferences
As well as being a congress venue, Leipzig is a place where science, research and business are linked in ways that are without parallel anywhere else. There are thematic points of contact for congresses and conferences at many of these local centres, including the oldest botanical garden in Germany, as well as the innovative Zoo Leipzig with its unique Pongoland project. Here, scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology are studying the behaviour of primates. Opportunities for synergies are also available at the Max Planck and Fraunhofer organisations, the Media Academy and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). The German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) and BIO CITY LEIPZIG work as part of an interdisciplinary network: young companies, working together with departments at the University of Leipzig, are setting new standards in biotechnology, biomedicine and healthcare.
