Europa21: ARE WE REALLY THE BEST?
International Thinkers and Poets in constructive debate / Artist Duo Various & Gold Broaden the Conceptual Space
From March 15 to March 18 the Leipzig Book Fair and the Robert Bosch Stiftung will once again open up a space for thinking tomorrow’s society with their programme Europa21, back now for the third time. Titled “Are we really the best?” this year’s curator Mohamed Amjahid brings together international guests from civil society, culture, science, and the media. Guests are invited to reflect on Europe’s past, discuss the present and develop ideas for the future of the continent. Visitors to the Leipzig Book Fair can choose from six panel discussions at “Café Europa” or join the Duel on Europe at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum on Friday evening. For the first time an artist twosome enters the Thinking Space. Duo Various & Gould will captivate the people of Leipzig and visitors to the fair with their poster series Identikits, which asks them to reflect on identity and cliché.
“How could we develop visions of a European future characterized by solidarity and inclusiveness without talking about the different perception of certain sensitive historical events?” is one of the questions posed by Mohamed Amjahid. “Europa21 therefore aims for an exchange free from political constraints, free from national egotisms, and especially free from European superciliousness. To this end a perspective from outside is all-important. Accordingly, numerous international guests with vastly different conceptions of Europe will join and inform the discussions.

About the Robert Bosch Stiftung
The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH is one of Europe’s largest foundations associated with a private company. In its charitable work, it addresses social issues at an early stage and develops exemplary solutions. For this purpose, it plans and implements its own projects. Additionally, it supports third-party initiatives that have similar goals.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung is active in the areas of health, science, society, education, and international relations.
Moreover, in the coming years, the Foundation will increasingly direct its activities on three focus areas:
- Migration, Integration, and Inclusion
- Social Cohesion in Germany and Europe
- Sustainable Living Spaces
Since it was established in 1964, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has invested more than 1.4 billion euros in charitable work.
The Leipzig Book Fair is the most important spring gathering of the book and media industry and sees itself as a show for readers, authors and publishing houses. It presents the first publications of the year, the latest themes and trends, and shows both German-language literature by young writers as well as new publications from Central and Eastern Europe. Thanks to the unique connection between the Book Fair and “Leipzig liest” – Europe’s biggest reading festival – the Book Fair has become a magnet for the public. In conjunction with the Leipzig Book Fair, the Manga-Comic-Con (MCC) is being staged in Hall 1, parallel to which the 24th Leipzig Antiquarian Book Fair is taking place.
