Waste disposal
Trade fairs, events and the operation of the Leipziger Messe exhibition grounds result in an annual waste volume of approximately 800 tonnes. The removal of this waste has been optimised with a complex concept since 2011:
Four-chamber containers in the halls and exhibition areas allow visitors to separate waste right at the source, and prevent the careless disposal of waste items.
Using the corresponding form, exhibitors can order containers for the separate collection of their waste before, during or after an event. In addition, they also receive financial incentives for full waste disposal. Employees of the cleaning service provider check for proper garbage separation by exhibitors.
Three disposal islands form the central points of the waste disposal system. Lift and tilt equipment, along with additional presses for paper and residual waste, compacts the waste volume. It means that employees of the city's cleaning department do not have to come to the exhibition grounds as often - which also reduces CO2 emissions.
